Sewing Foundations: Beginners 4-Week Series
Learn the basics, make your own projects, and discover the joy of sewing.
This 4-week series is perfect for absolute beginners who want one-on-one teaching attention in a small group setting. Each week you’ll make a new project, giving you practical skills and a sense of achievement.
What you’ll create
-

Tote Bag
A classic first project and the perfect confidence booster. You’ll learn how to cut fabric, sew straight seams, and attach sturdy handles to create a bag you’ll actually use; for groceries, the beach, the library, or everyday life. Simple, practical, and very satisfying.
-

Cotton shorts
Comfy cotton shorts (or pants, if you prefer!) that you can wear from street style to bedtime. This project introduces you to working with elastic waistbands and garment construction. There’s also the option to customise a t-shirt to create a cute matching PJ set.
-
Laptop case
Create a padded case to protect your laptop or tablet in style. You’ll learn how to layer fabrics with a quilting technique, and install bias binding and. If you’re up for an extra challenge, you can learn the technique to sew curves!
-
Stretch asymmetric top
A modern, wearable piece that introduces you to sewing with stretch fabrics. You’ll learn how to handle knits, achieve a comfortable fit, and create a flattering asymmetric shape — a great confidence-builder for future garment projects.
What to expect
In each class, bring your creativity, curiosity, and favourite fabric and we’ll provide the guidance, machines, and sewing magic. You’ll have access to our sewing machines and tools, or you’re very welcome to bring your own. For each project, you’ll bring your own fabric and haberdashery, with a clear, handy guide provided to make it all easy. Every project builds on the last, helping you understand how sewing really works; from reading patterns and cutting fabric, to stitching, shaping, and finishing.
In this series, you’ll be part of a small, calm class with a maximum of just four students, giving you plenty of one-on-one guidance and support. It’s a friendly, and welcoming space where you can learn at your own pace, ask questions freely, and enjoy step-by-step teaching with no rushing and no pressure. You’ll be building real, practical skills you can take home and use again and again.
Over 4 weeks, you’ll learn the foundations of sewing while creating a brand new project in each 2-hour session. You’ll learn how to use a sewing machine with confidence, understand basic sewing tools and terminology, follow simple patterns, and construct projects from start to finish. This series is perfect if you love learning by doing and want a creative routine to look forward to each week. When you book, you’re reserving your place in all four sessions, giving you the continuity and confidence that comes from building skills week by week.
